The History of XenaCast...

One day in January 1996, I was flipping through the channels trying to find something to watch. I came across a show with the cutest little blonde I had ever seen. She was talking 90 miles an hour and spinning some fabulous tales about a woman named Xena with whom she travelled. The pause before I flipped to the next channel was maybe three seconds. In that three seconds, I found something that would change my life.

I sat down that night and finished watching "Athens City Academy of the Performing Bards." The next week, my butt was planted in the chair for the next episode and an obsession was born. I had my VCR programmed and ready to go every week and woe to anyone who accidentally messed up my recording. It's been over a decade since I saw that first episode. A lot has changed during that time but not my love for Xena and Gabrielle.

I love podcasts. When I started this show, I had a two and a half hour commute everyday to and from work so I had a lot of time to kill. I found that listening to podcasts not only helped me stay awake but kept me entertained and informed as well. Suddenly, I was able to listen to people from all over the world talk about the things they love. I found Buffy podcasts and Firefly podcasts. Casts about politics and science fiction and a hundred other things I was interested in. But, I couldn't find a podcast about my first and best obsession, Xena: Warrior Princess. So, I decided to make my own.

It's been over two years now since I made that first recording. The first year was sporadic at best. Both my grandparents died within five months of each other making it a hard year for me to concentrate on other stuff. The first several shows were just me talking about the Xena episodes. It was fun but I wanted to do more.

I realized that by doing four Xena episodes per show every two weeks, I would run out of episodes rather quickly so I decided to make some changes. Those changes came in show nine which aired on February 18, 2007. I added news about the Xenaverse as a whole, as well as news about Lucy's and Renée's lives. I'm active on one of the Xena forum communities so I thought it would be cool to discuss a hot topic from there each episode. I love to read fan fiction and watch Xena music videos so I decided to share my favorites with listeners as well. A few other segments make an appearance periodically. Every once in a while, I have a friend drop by and we provide commentary together on some of the episodes. Those are especially fun.

In the future, I hope to continue bringing you lively commentary and keep you informed on what's happening in the world of all things Xena. I have lots of exciting things happening in my life and I look forward to sharing those too. I hope you enjoy the show and be sure to tell a friend. Please feel free to drop me an email any time. I may take a while but I will definitely get back with you. Thanks for helping to keep Xena and Gabrielle alive and well! Battle on!!!
